and

Tuesday, November 18th  to  Friday, November  21st 2pm 2025

Led by Sharon Seager

Icons can exert a mysteriously strong pull to us when we encounter them. Possibly in a museum or perhaps in a church. Have you ever considered that you could paint an icon for yourself?
Anyone exploring their spiritual path or seeking to deepen their ability to contemplate can use the practical encounter with the craft of icon painting to draw themselves more deeply towards the mystery of creation.
During the days on the course, after prayers you will have daily demonstrations of each step together with some details to introduce the theory of iconography bringing meaning to the actions of painting.
By the end of the course you will have an icon of the Holy Guardian Angel, have been introduced to the liquid egg tempera technique of the Prosopon School of Iconology. You will have progressed through the key steps of icon painting based on the pedagogical tool of the 21 steps of icon painting developed by Vladislav Andreyev founder & current head of the Prosopon School
Tutor:  Sharon Seager
In 2013 Sharon typed, “painting for God”, into her computer’s search engine, a journey began that would lead her to dedicate her life to Icon painting. Her previous studies, work as a scenic painter in the theatre and practice in meditation, as well as the Jewish tradition of her birth; all combine to inform her current practice. Sharon’s chosen specialism is Russian Byzantine style iconography.
Sharon continues to be mentored by senior faculty of The Prosopon School of Iconology at retreats in EU & USA; her work can be seen in the latest School catalogue. Sharon shows her work locally where she also offers instruction in icon painting. Her community is The Russian Orthodox Church of The Holy Image, St Leonards.
