Icon Painting courses in 2023/24

The Prosopon School of Iconology – Moscow School online
The Moscow branch of the school of iconography and iconology “Prosopon” invites everyone to a course of icon painting of Nativity icon in the ancient Russian-Byzantine technique of highlights and floats.
We use only the natural materials: gold leaves, natural pigments, egg tempera, drying oil, etc. No experience in writing icons is required.
Classes will be held once per week on Mondays from 7PM to 9PM Moscow time via Zoom App in English language (or we can consider another time and date, if it is more comfortable).
For study, you need to have all the necessary paints, materials and tools (a list of which will be sent to everyone) as well as an icon board with an ark. The lesson includes a short lecture on the symbolism of each stage of painting and the idea of this icon and a demonstration of its practical implementation.
After each lesson, students will be required to independently complete the homework assigned by the teacher.
The full course of study will take approximately 15 classes. All classes will be recorded on video and available for all students, including those who missed the class.
For communication between students and the teacher in the group, a chat in the Messenger will be organized.

Christ In Glory
A class for painting the icon of Christ In Glory
The course will run in a similar way as above with tutor Elena Antonova
The class runs on Thursdays Moscow time midday – 2pm
Materials, paint and tools must be supplied by participants and they will work at home on their own using the guidance given by tutor in the weekly sessions.
Detailed critique and notes are received for each stage with the theory and symbolism explained as the painting proceeds.
